March 1st, 2017 – Is Spring Here Early?
Hello out there! It seems strange, but with the first day of March upon us, I find myself coatless and mittenless after a week of weather in the 50s and 60s. After doing some quick research, I discovered that it’s not just sunny here in Massachusetts, but nationwide; in fact, in just the first three weeks of February, over 5,300 daily high-temperatures were broken, according to livescience.com. It seemed that as soon as the snow melted away, we were thrown directly into short-sleeved Spring, with no more snowmen to come. Why has this happened? In addition to the global trend of increased temperatures, climate scientists suspect the lack of the “Arctic polar vortex”, which usually send lower temperatures our way. It happened to pass the U.S. by this year, bringing a colder winter to Northern Europe and Russia. Whatever the cause, I for one hope the good weather is here to stay. The CCA has an extraordinary number of events this March, so a great time will be able to fit into your schedule no matter what. The biggest don’t-miss event this month is the CTM Short Film Festival, which will be showcasing local filmmakers and giving out awards. And, if you’re looking for some fantastic entertainment apart from the Chelmsford Center for the Arts, come see Man of La Mancha at Innovation Academy Charter School in Tyngsboro on March 16th, 17th, and 18th. I’ll be performing as Don Quixote, and would love to see you there!
